Email Fraud

I was checking my email minutes ago, one of the emails subjected “YOUR URGENT HELP IS NEEDED”, from my sis. First thing approached my mind is, another fraud email sample forwarding? Of course, i pressed and read the email. It came to my surprise why has my sis sent such email !! Which it’s very obviously a fraud email sending. Email as follow:

I am contacting you because i know you are the only one i can count on. Something urgent came up, i had to attend to in the Nigeria, so i left without telling anyone, i left 3 days ago.When i came down from the airport i flagged a Cab to take me to the nearest hotel which i paid for before i entered. But to my utmost surprise when i got to the hotel and was about checking in, I noticed my wallet (which contained my passport,ATM card, some money and other valuables) was not with me again.

I talked to the Hotel manager who out of pity saw that i was a foreigner allowed me with the condition that i would pay before he allows me take any of my belongings out when i want to finally leave. I explained to him that i would contact my friends and families to help me.

I am currently very broke and I have no where to go, no where to run to and no one to help me, please i want to ask for your assistance cause there is no one else i can turn to,  hope you understand. I would hope and pray you would be considerate enough to help me,Please i would like you to help me with the sum of $2500 to help me get my flight rearrangement and settle my hotel bills so i can get back to the country. I promise will get your money returned as soon as i get back to the country.

Please the money should be sent via western union because thats the only way i can receive money here since i have no access to my account, the money should be sent to me at :

Please dont inform anyone since i do not want them to panic, i will be waiting for you to write me. I will really appreciate it if you are able to send the money today, even if you are unable to send the complete $2,500, just send how much you are able to and let me know how much was sent, so i will start paying my bills bit by bit.
I sent you this message because i know i can count on you.

The mail was sent directly from her yahoo inbox. Imediately i skyped her bout the mail and promptly she sign in into her yahoo mail. She can’t sign in ! Password was changed ! Next step goes to password retrieving. Temporary password was sent to secondary mail box, there she realized that there was already an email of yahoo mail password changed notice. Well, at least she’s able to retrieve her password….. Of course, she checked “sent mail”, 2 emails were sent… by someone else…

What doubted me is, will he or she be able to receive the amount sent ?? Western Union requires receiver’s identification card (or other document proving identity) to receive the amount. The problem is, receiver’s name is my sister’s name, so… how will he or she proves the identity ??

Some advises:

1. Always clear your cache after closing your browser
2. Never save your password on your browser
3. Prevent sending personal details or other important document details through email
4. Never respond to any email that suspected you and check with sender prior any action
5. DON’T use email ! … nuh…hahaha kidding ~
