So, did you Earth Hour?

Earth saving rangers launched 60 hours light off yesterday, and did you give the earth some resting hours?

I was in Capitol Hotel Kuala Lumpur during this time. I’m given a high floor and great view room, viewing the Twin Tower and Petronas Tower. The awareness poster of earth hour can be seen everywhere and even at the hotel’s lobby. It can be assumed that everyone was concerned and awared about this event. When times come during that night, Petronas Tower off the light when time clicks, while Twin Tower still lighted as bright as always. and only turned off probably 5 to 10 minutes later, as for others… well, see how the city looks like during the Earth Hour night.

Weather is going pretty weird these days and the temperature of earth is changing. An article in TIME magazine mentioned that massive die-offs of frogs in the American tropics are an early warning of the effects of global warming. Frogs are actually very frail things, with a semipermeable skin that leaves them vulnerable to even the slightest hiccup in their environment. They are what the scientist call an indicator species, particularly sensitive animals that are the first to go when climate starts to change. Everyone knew that Arctic ice is melting because of global warming. A study revealed by NASA showed that between 2003 and 2005, the ice sheet lost an average of 20 percent more mass each year than it received from snowfall. Between 2004 and 2006, Greenland lost approximately 164 cubic miles of ice, more than enough fresh water to fill the Lake Erie Basin.

Every country says “Go Green” now. One of the activities that all countries are doing now is to urged every shoppers bring their own bag. Singapore had announced, first Wednesday of every month will be the day which shoppers bring their own bag. Many other countries like China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and others had started on this activity. How about Malaysia? The country did not announce anything as such, so it depends on shoppers’ initiatives, “Cut Plastic Bags and Bring Your Own Bags”.

Ecolabels were designed to raise alert on “Go Green“.

So where is Malaysia’s Ecolabel?

Ah !! I’ve almost forgotten, Malaysia is busy with politics recently…
